Visiual Field Test
Visual Field Testing monitors peripheral vision. Visual fields are obtained to monitor visual changes that may be caused by specific eye diseases, such as glaucoma, as well as the neurological function of the retina, optic nerve and brain. While there are several types of visual field exams, the most common required patients to focus on one spot and respond to flashing lights by pressing a button.
Topcon TRC-NW6S Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera
Retinal Photography
Retinal photography is becoming a must in optometric practices. It is essential in managing glaucoma. Photographic documentation of diabetic retinopathy patients helps us keep a data base of the progression of the disease, it's on going management and control.
High Resolution Retinal Photography uses a computer-integrated digital imaging system to record a detailed view of the retina. Since nothing touches the eye, photo-documentation is painless. This digital image provides an excellent reference point for future comparisons.
Retinal photography assists in the detection and management of problems such as diabetic changes, hypertensive (high blood pressure) retinopathy, macular degeneration, optic nerve disease, and retinal holes, thinning and/or detachments.
We recommend that all our patients receive this test. It is especially important for people with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal diseases, flashing lights, floaters, headaches or a strong/high eyeglasses prescription.
Topcon KR-8000PA Auto Kerato-Refractometer
Auto refraction
It's a great diagnostic tool of refractive error. It is especially useful for treating kids and patients to whom English is a second language.
Topagraphy
This is a device that measures corneal steepness, which is invaluable for complex contact lense fittings and diagnosis of keratokonus.
EYE DISEASES AND CONDITIONS
Common Eye Conditions are Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Cataracts, Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism and Presbyopia.
Glaucoma There are often no symptoms until damage has been done. It is actually a group of diseases characterized by increased pressure within your eye. If left untreated, can cause blindness through permanent damage to the optic nerve.
Macular Degeneration A degeneration of the central portion of the retina (macula) which is responsible for straight-on vision used in driving, reading, perceiving colors, and recognizing faces. It is the most common cause of blindness in people over 50 years of age.
Cataracts A clouding of the lens of the eye. Usually occurs over a period of years and is caused by a chemical change in the protein which makes up the lens.
Dry Eyes Dry Eyes are dry, stinging, burning eyes caused by improper lubrication or a lack of tears.
Dry eyes, a common eye problem, is caused by a lack of tear production. Tears normally keep the eyes moistened and lubricated. However, stinging, burning, dryness, and redness will result if enough tears are not produced to keep the eyes wet and confortable.
While discomfort is the primary result of dry eyes, infection and corneal scarring may occur if left untreated.
